In 2019, out of 35086 Russian tourists came to Kerala, only 533 visited Malabar (Kasaragod 242, Kozhikode 94, Kannur 76, Malappuram 89, Wayanad 32) Recently a series of events were organised at Kozhikode to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the visit of the first Russian traveller, Afanasy Nikitin, to the city. The Kozhikode corporation opened a road named after him.

On the side-line of the Indo-Russian Travel Mart, a one-day Russian Festival could be organised in Kozhikode. Tourism seminar, discussion between the representatives of Malabar tourism and Russian tour operators, visit of the tour operators to various destinations and Russian cultural programme can be included in the event. The proposed date is 4th December 2022.
